Next week: Marcheline Hits the Road

Don't know if you recall the story I told a while back about my searching for and actually finding a long lost friend of my mother's... but in any case, he has invited us to visit his family in Italy, and we are going!

I've never been to Italy before, so this will be pretty darn exciting. My only regret, and a big one, is that Bear can't go with us. He's so new at his job that he has no vacation days to take yet, and so he will be staying home keeping the kitties company. So this will be a "mother/daughter" trip, and we're leaving all the planning to our host. We are staying at his house, and I imagine all the extended family will be coming over and we will be brushing up on our Italian in a big way!

Mamma mia! This is where I will be next week!

Wow, I'm so envious! Italy is wonderful and this time of the year the food will be fantastic - all the autumn specialties like wild mushrooms and truffles and wild boar sauces on pasta.

I don't know that area at all well, but I used to work all around central Italy and miss it now I'm too far to pop over. Keep us posted - I want to hear all about it! I'm feeling hungry already!

I know, I know... and Bear and I just started the South Beach diet together today!!!

I am wondering how I am going to do with this in Italy, or whether I should just not try to diet there, and jump back in when I get home.

I'll see what's on offer there... as we're staying with a family, I'm sure there will be plenty of vegetables and things to choose from.

Ciao, bella!

Don't even think of dieting in Italy!! I'm sure there will be loads of vegetables and great food, and overall the Italian diet is pretty healthy and balanced. You can just avoid desserts which are the least interesting bit of Italian cooking anyway.

There should be grapes and fresh figs at this time of year and wonderful pears and apples too and funghi funghi funghi if you're near the hills and mountains. I'm drooling just thinking about it.

Buon Appetito!!

Thanks! 8-)

I agree with you about the desserts, too. I'm looking forward to the hiking around our host has planned for us, as well... he's already requested we bring good sturdy walking shoes! That will help work off some of the delectables.

This is so exciting! I know two other people on the way to Italy. I have never been there. Can't wait to see the pictures. Enjoy, enjoy!
