And so... as some of you may know, I began hosting a new store called Roz Russell Vintage at a fab new website called storenvy.com. After uploading the photos and writing all of my ad copy, taking new photos for new items, and creating a header banner, I found that after an initial rush of my friends and family clicking on my store, traffic basically died off. Apparently, the storenvy people don't pay Google to list their items, so we don't show up on searches. Nice to find out after I've already done all the work.
I began looking into all the advertising-slash-networking-slash-interweaving suggested by those "in the know" to make sure my store gets a lot of traffic. The two main sites suggested by all and sundry are Facebook and Pinterest.
Opened a Pinterest page. Opened a Facebook page. Linked everything together so that one leads to the other, leads to the other. "Pinned" all my store items on Pinterest. "Liked" all my items on Facebook, and imported my store as well.
All great, right?
Not.
I created a board on Pinterest named "Cake Stands", in which I pinned all the custom made cake stands that I've made. I labeled each of them "cake stand" with a description. If you go to Pinterest and search "cake stand", mine don't show up. If you search the boards for "Cake Stands", mine doesn't show up. My Pinterest page is named "Roz Russell Vintage". If you search under "people" for "vintage", you get fifty Pinterest pages of stores with the word "vintage" in them... but not mine. God, I love technology.
And today, while trying to upload my store items to a Facebook photo album (the only reason I opened a FB page is to promote my store) I was blocked from using the site because I was trying to add the URL of my store to MY OWN PHOTOS. WTF people????
I am having rather a need to use that little stress reduction kit at the top of this post. I can't understand why all the websites designed to interlink people and bring traffic to your website have all these roadblocks, rules, and regulations designed to prevent one from doing any of it!
Oh, and as if that weren't enough...

Frustration!
ReplyDeleteNot sure, but it might need a bit of time to show up on searches. The search engines sometimes take a while to re-index things... I think that's the right terminology! So don't give up just yet!
Kit - thanks for the pep talk... don't worry, I never give up. Stubborn cuss, me. Just ask my mom. 8-)
ReplyDeleteFirstly can I comment upon your Withnail watch picture. Excellent. Good job neither of them has replied yet or it would have gone to waste. You've got to take the positives...
ReplyDeleteI'm not into Facebook really but I'll have a go at extolling your virtues on Pinterest.
You are due some goodness from the Karma bank.......everything goes in circles.
