Well, I wrote second letters to both gents about a week ago, and so far still no return missives from the Grant / McGann camps. I had a momentary flutter of hopefulness yesterday, as I received some foreign mail, but it was the cake stand hardware from Australia that I'd ordered.
Very, very pleased with those cake stand handles, they're much better quality than the ones from China. Still can't understand why nobody in the U.S.A. sells them. Anyway...
We are due to head out for the sunny south on Tuesday, and I was eagerly awaiting the Asian-style red plate with the white tree to complete my cousin's cake stand. The good news: the plate arrived. The bad news: it's completely the wrong size! The white bowl with the red berries is much deeper than I'd thought it would be, as well. I purchased the items based on their diameter and thought that just as long as the middle plate was smaller than the bottom one, and the top bowl was smaller than the middle one, it would look all right.
But it doesn't look all right. And so today and tomorrow are going to be spent frantically looking around in local stores to either find a red and white middle tier for the cake stand I'd already planned, or ditching the whole idea and either using one of the cake stands I was trying to sell, or buying three new plates and going for a completely different look.
Luckily, there's a Home Goods, a Marshalls, a Kohls, and a restaurant supply store all within close range. I should be able to come up with something from somewhere. Hopefully. Nothing like a little last-minute stress to mess with the nerves!
Today is my last day of work before vacation, and I can tell you that if I had any off-time left on the books, I would most certainly be taking it. This upcoming shift is going to be the longest eight hours in the history of hours.
Well, the weather is gorgeous and the day is young... I'm off to see what kind of trouble I can get into!
*** LATER NOTE ***
I finished photographing my aunt's and my cousin's cake stands... here they are, for your perusal:
"Rocky Bottom Bramble"
(named after my aunt's mountain house)
"Long Island Summer"
(because my cousin loves our beaches)
Which is your favorite?

Second one....I like the mix.
ReplyDeleteHave a great vacation!
Joan - me, too! I especially love that the yellow of the middle tier and the coral of the bottom one are both incorporated in the wee saucer at the top!
ReplyDeleteRocky Bottom Bramble is my favourite. I love it!
ReplyDeleteI hope the stress isn't too great but I never liked that one with the bowl on top!
Love the beach themed one. The combination of shapes and colors is so interesting.
ReplyDeleteHave a great vacation!
