To date, no reply from either camp. I've had second thoughts about my first letters. (That sounds like the title of a country song, but isn't.) Since I wrote to Mr. Grant and Mr. McGann, I've read a lot more about them - their lives, and their interests. I'm considering writing a second note to each of them. Something that might better prompt a response.
I've found that some celebrities don't respond to letters of praise, but they will answer a specific question. Dame Judi Dench, for example, answered a letter I wrote her in which I asked about a specific scene she played in "As Time Goes By" where she mentioned meerschaum pipes.
So, today, after I gird my loins and wade into battle with my bank, (which neglected to inform me that there would be a $500 balance transfer fee on the fantastic credit card they offered me), and skirmish with the anesthesiologist's office regarding the fact that they said they'd accept my insurance as payment and then sent me a $1300 invoice, I shall perhaps sit down in the newly-crisp autumn air on my patio and write some letters to the Withnail boys.
Rich has just given me back my copy of Withnail - time to watch it again, I feel.
